According to TIME, Republicans in the U.S. Senate have a ‘big problem’ with ‘insurgent’ candidates challenging their establishment (GOPe) candidates.

Tuesday, President Trump gave his full endorsement to Alabama’s GOPe favorite, Luther Strange, over House Freedom Caucus member Mo Brooks. And once again, we see the GOPe throwing money–$8 million dollars to be exact–at a close race in order to boost the GOPe candidate over a conservative candidate.

The real problem is not the so-called ‘insurgent’ candidates, it’s that President Trump’s endorsement of Mitch McConnell’s crony, Strange, is a giant slap in the face to all who voted for change and to “drain the Swamp.” By endorsing McConnell’s $8 million dollar candidate, POTUS has also endorsed the establishment status quo over change.

It remains to be seen if President Trump’s endorsement of candidates will sway voters–especially in states he lost in in 2016–but one thing is certain, we can expect to see more of this type of GOPe money-dumping in close races across the country.

In any event, this should give GOP voters pause before donating their hard-earned money to the political parties and groups over the individual candidates.
