Recently I was the subject of a factually inaccurate attack in a Signal op-ed by CA25 Democratic candidate Bryan Caforio.  First and foremost, of course, I denounce and do not tolerate the type of hate that Caforio is trying to ignorantly pin on me.  Attacks on me by someone who doesn’t even have the decency to talk to me doesn’t bother me, it’s cowardly and shameful on his part, and I tend not to even acknowledge low-level brow beating such as this, but as was mentioned on The connectingRight Radio Show a couple months ago, we knew this was coming, people in his campaign like to talk and give us information. This attack wasn’t for the purpose of hurting me; it was the first part of a two-part political attack to smear Katie Hill for being open to reaching a side of Santa Clarita that isn’t her typical base of supporters. Caforio has stayed away from doing this as he tries to rally the far left, thinking that will win him the primary in June, I presume.  This is another example of how he does not understand Santa Clarita and is not the best democratic candidate for the 25th District.

Attack me if you want to, I don’t care, I’ve been around this city for decades longer than Caforio, my dog Kopi is turning one this month and he’s been around longer than Caforio has owned a house in the district. More importantly, exponentially more people know me and my character, but to use me to attempt to hurt a good person from our community for political gain, and you’ve got my attention.

Let’s address the Three Percenter subject first.

Caforio stated that Three Percenters have been around since 2009, when in fact they have been around since the 1800’s stemming from the Minutemen who protected the people from the King’s tyranny after the Revolutionary War.  Caforio talked about a small, now defunct, fringe Three Percenter group lead by a far-right novelist.  He equated this group’s actions to all Three Percenters as a whole, in hopes of spreading this misinformation in an attempt to make it look like Katie Hill was a sympathizer of a “hate group”.  He talked about it in this fashion either out of ignorance or in an attempt to purposefully misinform the public.  The only problem is, that it is irresponsible to make this broad comparison and equate the actions and beliefs of about 20 people to 350,000+ people.  Comparisons such as this have led to ignorant people believing that all Muslims support terrorism, or that all law enforcement has a prejudice against the African American community.  If Caforio thinks this way, is he going to condemn every single person that practices Catholicism because some have been proven to be pedophiles?

Caforio continues that Three Percenters sympathize with neo-Nazi’s because a few people claiming to be associated with a Three Percenter group were at the Charlottesville rally set up by a known White Nationalist and included white supremacist groups.  I want, and have, nothing to do with the type of group or people that Caforio is describing, and you can ask any of the people who personally know me in the district and they can attest for my character and how I detest hate and discrimination. Additionally, Three Percenters do not condone any type of hate or discrimination.  In the bylaws for the West Coast Patriots Three Percenters, the group I belong to, it states:

“While we are not an “employer,” WCP III% prohibits any discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, veteran status, national origin, ancestry, pregnancy status, sex, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, mental or physical disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, or any other characteristics protected by law.”

Also, when it comes to Charlottesville, this statement was released by a much larger Three Percenter group, but was followed by all of the 350,000+ verified members of various Three Percenter groups:

“Effective immediately, The Three Percenters has issued a stand down order in response to the violent protests that have erupted across our nation over the past 48 hours. We have intel that shows that these protests will continue to spill over into the days to come, as well as into other cities around the nation.

The violent protests that occurred today happened when ANTIFA and BLM showed up to counter-protest against alt-right white supremacists and Nazi groups who were scheduled to gather in Charlottesville’s Emancipation Park to protest the city’s decision to remove a Confederate statue there. While we support and defend everyone’s right to free speech, we will not align ourselves with any type of racist group. We cannot have this organization tainted by news outlets as they will most certainly report that we have aligned ourselves with white supremacists and Nazis.”

Less than 10 individuals claiming to be Three Percenters showed up and could not properly identify with any organized Three Percenter group showing that they either were not actually Three Percenters or may have been part of kind of fringe group condemned and not supported by Three Percenters as a whole, and Caforio tried to use that small group to mislead the public for political gain.

Next Caforio claimed that Three Percenters are “anti-government”.  Again, this is factually wrong.  Three Percenters want to make sure that the constitution is the supreme law as it always was intended to be, to adhere to any changes made through proper legislation, and that personal freedoms are protected.  Our country has become one of the most powerful and welcoming in the world on the foundation of these principles.  Why is Caforio worried about citizens wanting to protect a foundation that he would take an oath to protect if he were to ever win any elected office one day?

Although some members are trained in firearms use, because they are either former military or have taken sanctioned classes that allow them to get a CCW or training for in-home protection, we always see any form of violence as a last resort and only for self-defense, plain and simple, and that is stated in all groups. If Caforio had taken the time to do proper research, he would have to know that.

Firearms training is only one small part of what Three Percenters do.  We also practice preparedness for disasters, communications in case current lines are down, and basic medical to be able to properly help, in any situation, before first responders are able to arrive. For example, a lot of Three Percenters were instrumental in helping citizens get rescued during Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.

Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let us look at part two of the Caforio Campaign’s attempt to smear Katie Hill.

It was intended to use this false information to sway people away from Katie Hill.  This tends to be a political tactic used by someone who knows they cannot win a campaign on their own merit, which they discovered in the general election in 2016.  He used whispers of inaccurate information to shame Katie for coming on our show, what a great feminist Bryan is.

I am a Steve Knight supporter, but as someone who likes to hope for the best while preparing for the worst, we have supported Katie Hill for the primary as she has shown to be the best democratic candidate, with the best understanding of the people of Santa Clarita and the 25th District.  Also, Hill doesn’t need to deceive the public and use underhanded tactics to gain support from democrats in our city.   Caforio decided to not come on our show not because of principal like he claims, but because he thought he had a political opportunity.  That’s who Bryan Caforio is, a disingenuous political opportunist who cares more about power than the people.
